Let's Get Acquainted
Hello! This is Isabel J. and Isabella B. We are seventh graders with a passion for helping the environment. We are participating in the 2021 eCYBERMISSION, a web-based STEM competition for students in grades 6-9.
The question we are trying to answer is; How can we come up with a solution to make sorting and recycling plastics faster and more efficient in our local community?
We thought that If people sorted their plastic by types in their own home, then that would cut down one step in the recycling plastic process and hopefully making the process faster. Some people already sort their plastic into different paper bags. Our idea was to create bags to sort out the different plastic types, but the way our solution differs from what other people are doing is that the bags will be made out of the same material that will be placed in there. An example would be a bag made out of only PETE (type 1 plastic) and only PETE plastic would go in there.
This website was created to give a little more context to the different plastic types that will be sorted into our bags. Additionally to give specific informational videos on how to process plastic products commonly found in homes before putting them in the recycling bin.
